We use comprehensive stool analysis to assess GI health, including a test for intestinal permeability or “leaky gut”. We may also use food sensitivity testing as a general guide to help identify triggering foods.

HOW does functional medicine for gut health work?

We guide you through the process starting with a thorough health assessment. Jana, our nurse practitioner will review your case and then meet with you virtually or in-person to clarify details, define your health goals, start your gut restoration program, and order any necessary testing.


During subsequent visits, we will review testing results, create specific vitamin and supplement recommendations, and work on diet and lifestyle changes.

  • We start by removing foods that may be causing a reaction or sensitivity.

  • We then replace enzymes to help digest foods properly and allow healing.

  • We start to build the gut flora through diet and targeted supplements.

  • Using specific substances such as L-Glutamine, bone broth, collagen, and herbs we repair the gut lining.

  • Finally, we address lifestyle to create resilience, reduce stress, and balance the demands of life including work, sleep, play, movement and social connection

60-75-min new patient visit with Jana Pedersen, DNP, FNP-C, to review your Detailed Health History, hear your wellness goals and begin creating a personalized health plan.


If necessary, we'll utilize either wearables or lab tests to realize more actionable data about your current health. This may include blood tests that are often covered by insurance.


This is an in depth explanation of lab results or wearable data. We'll also monitor your progress and complete a medical system questionnaire during this 60 minute visit.
